The line graph compares five different activities in terms of their spending levels in a European country over a period of 40 years, starting from 1960. Units are measured in percentages.
Overall, all the sectors witnessed a significant change throughout the period. While food, leisure, clothing, and energy experienced a downward trend in their spending, albeit with varying levels, transport increased. Of particular note is transport, which surpassed both food and leisure, thereby emerging as the most popular category.
In 1960, food’s rate showed a substantial drop in the 40-year period. From this point onwards, however, food fell dramatically, hitting a low of 14% by the conclusion of the period. Furthermore, leisure also followed a similar pattern. Beginning at 20% in the year 1960, this figure went down, reaching a low of 12%. Transport, on the other hand, showed an upward trajectory. Beginning at about 8% in 1960, transport saw a consistent increase, breaching a 15% threshold at the end of the timeframe.
Clothing and energy both exhibited noticeable downward trajectories over the four decades. After starting at 11% in 1960, clothing dropped remarkably, hitting a low of 5% by the end of the period. Energy also followed a similar pattern, albeit at a lower level. Starting at only at 6%, it fell down moderately until the year 2000, when it reached about 3%.
