The line chart illustrates the proportion of visitors to various destinations in Scotland in a thirty year- period, from 1980 to 2010.
Overall, what stands out from the graph is that there was an upward trend in the rate of individuals visiting zoos and castles over the period. However, the others witnessed a reverse trend. Another interesting point is that zoos were the least attractive location for tourists at first, but in 2010, aquariums had the lowest rate of visitors.
In detail, the percentage of tourists to castles was about 25% in 1980 before it increased significantly to above 45% in 1995. However, there was a moderate drop in the figure in 2000, at 30% and it almost stabilized at this point until the end of the period. As regards castles, starting at 10% at first, the figure then saw a fluctuation from 10% to 15% until it stopped by 2000, at broadly 10%. Eventually, it plunged to 20% in 2010.
Turning to the ratio of aquariums’ visitors, having soared to from 20% to generally 35% in 1985, it soon returned to the initial point in 1990. Subsequently, it decreased gradually to just below 10% in 2010, which was the lowest. Regarding the figure for the festival, while it was initially the highest with 31% in the beginning, there was a steady decline in the figure until it finished at 10% in 2010.
