The line graph illustrates the proportion of employed Australians aged from 18 to 34 in 1971 and 2011.
Men consistenly recorded higher employment rate than women in both year. The proportion of employ women rose consistenly in 2011, the figure for women in 1971 declined with age. By contrast, employment among men remained retively stable and high level.
In 1971, approximately 60% of Australian men age 18 were employed and this figure increased steadily around 70% by the age of 22. After that, the rate remained lastly unchanged edging up slightly to just over 70% among those age 34. A similiar but lower pattern can be seen for men in 2011, whose employment rate came from about 45% at age 18 to roughly 55% at age 22, before stablizing at around 57% for the remaining age group.
Conversely, the trend for women were markedly different. In 1971, the employment rate for women started at 43% at age 18 and declined to about 30% at early twentiess, then lever of and remained almost the constant until age 34. In contrast, women in 2011 experienced a continuous increased in employment starting at 30% in 18, the figure rose steadily through the age rate eventually abput 50% at the age of 34.
