The line graph gives information about the average number of people attending top-level football matches in three European countries – Italy, England, and Germany – from 1980 to 2004 (in thousands). Overall, while Italy showed a downward trend in the football match attendees, the reverse was true for the remaining countries. Notably, Italy stood out with a more considerable figure prior to 1998.
Germany demonstrated a more pronounced change. It started at 25,000 people in the first year and then experienced a marked drop to around 19,000 visitors in 1986, after which it saw its peak of approximately 33,000 people in 2004.
By contrast, Italy and England bucked the trend. The number of average football match attendance in Italy started at 35,000 people in 1980 and then grew slightly to about 37,000 attendees in 1986, before reaching its low of 25,000 people in 2004. Similarly, the figure for England started at about 26,000 people in the first year and dipped negligibly to around 23,000 attendees in 1986, a figure which skyrocketed significantly to just below 35,000 people in 2004.
