Then, it declined steadily until it fell to just over 25% in 2004. Regarding England’s football match audience, in 1980 it comprised approximately 26% of the audience. This figure fell and reached 19% in 1986. However, over the next 18 years, it increased gradually and reached 34%.
By contrast, the audience for football matches in Germany stood at 25%, but the next year, it decreased to 20%. However, it grew and reached 34% in 2004.
