The line graph illustrates the number of daily viewers for Channel one news at four different times (1pm, 6pm, 9:30pm and 11pm) over the course of a year. Figures are given in millions of views per day.
Overall, the evening news at 6pm was consistently attracting the largest audience for most of the year, despite a gradual decline. In stark contrast, the 1pm remained relatively stable with the lowest figures. The 11pm news was first introduced in may, rose sharply to a peak before falling, while the 9:30pm program experienced significant fluctuations.
At the beginning of the year, the 6pm news had nearly 5 million viewers, then fluctuated slightly while declining to just above 3 million in december. Meanwhile, the 9:30 pm broadcast increased from around 3.2 million in January to almost 3.8 million in May, after which it dropped dramatically to about 1 million in August, before recovering to 3 million by the end of the year.
The 1pm program remained stable throughout, hovering at approximately 1.3-1.4 million viewers. The 11 pm program started with a very low figure of around 0.3 million in May, then surged to a peak of about 4 million in August, becoming the most popular slot for a short period of time, before declining steadily to slightly below 1 million in December.
