Overall, it can be clearly seen that the number of visitors came for holiday accounted for the largest percentage, the second position was occupied by the figure for business. Also, the proportion of people visited the UK for meeting friends and relatives remained the lowest.
In 1989, there was a significant increase in the number of visitors moved to the UK for holiday from around 6.5 millions to 9 millions in 1994. While the opposite for the number of business when it decreased rapidly of 1 million and reach at 4 millions during the same period. There was a different status for the percentage of people choosing to meet friends and relatives when it went up constantly to 6 millions in the period of 15 years.
In 2004, the proportion of visitors chose holiday immediately surged back to its highest point at 9 millions. This year also saw a magnificant decline of 1 million for both business and meeting friends and relatives, stand at 7 millions and 6 millions respectively.
