The graph illustrates the proportion of Australian people who were employed in four different groups from 1976 to 2011.
Overall, while Women 26-34 and Women 18-25 both increased, the reverse was true for the other remaining groups.
Focusing on the increases, the youngest group in the women gender started at around 52% in 1975, a figure that then rose steeply to 55% in 1990. Before peaking at about 62% in 2010, there was a recovery from 1990 to 1994. Moreover, the elderly group in the woman group commenced at 30% at the beginning of the period, and this was followed by a steady growth of 30% over the last 15 years. Despite a mild fluctuation between 1990 and 1994, it continued its trajectory to 79% over the years.
Starting at 75% in the initial year, the shares of Australians in the men aged 18-25 group witnessed a steady dip to 72% from 1975 to 1990. Before dropping further to under 70% by the end of the period, there was a mild fluctuation between 1990 and 1994. In contrast, the same pattern was observed in men aged 26-34; it started at 95%, but then there was a consistent reduction to 90% in 1990. After a small recovery from 1990 to 1994, the figure experienced a marginal decrease to 88% throughout the period.
