The line graph illustrates the importance, measured in percentage, that people of four age groups place on five different factors while buying a new house. It is immediately apparent that having a low crime rate was the most important variable amongst all the ages.
Of all the factors, the desire for a low rate was of the utmost importance. It stood at around 80% for all of the people, with the middle aged and elderly viewing it as slightly more important. Next, Schools were considered to be the next most important thing by a significant proportion of 25 to 44 year olds. Though, this reduced markedly as the populations grew older, with less than a fourth of those over 55 viewing it as important.
Shopping facilities, being chosen by around 13%, were not considered to be as important as having a low crime rate and Schools by the younger generations. Though, it increased in importance as the population grew older, and as would be expected, is actually more important than schools to those over 55. Although, increasing in importance with age and time, neither parks nor public transport were viewed to be as importance as the other factors by any of the age groups.
