The line graph illustrates how the citizens of a European country spent their money in a 40-year period starting from 1960.
Overall, it is evident that almost all categories of spending experienced a downward trend, while the percentage of money spent on transport recorded a significant rise, and taking over the dominant position of food.
In 1960, food had the highest portion of spending, accounting for about a third, followed by leisure with 20%. Meanwhile, The amount of money spent on clothing was about half the figure of leisure, and slightly above transport by around 2%. At the bottom of the list is the budget for energy, with approximately 5%.
Thereafter, the expenditure on transport increased significantly as its percentage of spending rose to 15% in 2000, overtaking the first place of food which dropped to 13%. Similar to food expenditure, leisure spending also saw a downward trend but to a lesser extent, as it fell by about 10% in 2000. Energy and clothing expenditure shared the same pattern, as both of them decreased by around 5% in the end of the period.
