The line graphs compare the percentage of male and female teenagers who pursed education at secondary school till the age of 18 in 4 different European country between 1996 to 2003.
Overall, the proportion of secondary education students of both genders in Norway and the UK remained higher over the period. While the proportion of female teenagers in Spain and Italy was similar to that of the UK, the proportion of males in these two countries was the lowest.
Female and male citizens of Norway and the UK showed much bigger figures compared to other countries. Females in these two regions started at 90% and 65% in1996 respectively, a figures that then changed to 99% and 85% in 2003. In addition, the UK female students were the lowest percentage at the start of the period. Similarly, male learners in Norway and the UK started at 90% and 65% in the same order. By the end of the period, the UK’s male rate had increased to match female rate at 85%, while Norway’s unchanged.
In contrast, Spain and Italy female’s percentage increased with the small figures. The percentage of secondary school woman in Spain and Italy started at almost 70%, and the numbers increased to 75% in 2003. Male’s on the other hand bucked the trend, their rates in both regions considerably increased.
