The line chart illustrates number of visits to the UK, and by UK residents abroad, during a period of 20 years, from 1979 to 1999. Additionally the bar chart presents information about the most favoured travel destinations by UK residents, in 1999.
Generally speaking, it is clear to see that in 1999 France and Spain were the two most popular destinations, far ahead other countries. Moreover, a glance at the line chart reveals that number of visits increased over the years both by overseas residents in the UK, and by visits abroad by UK residents.
As it is presented in the line chart in 1979 the number of visits in either case were around 10 million, or slightly above, however during this 20 year period, these numbers increased rapidly. By 1999 visits to the UK and from the UK were just above 25 million and almost 55 million respectively. It is interesting to note that these numbers started substantially increasing after 1986.
If we take a look at the bar chart it is lucid that Spain and France are the most visited countries by british tourists, in 1999 Spain had slightly below 10 million visits, whereas France had over 10 million. Other popular destinations were USA, Greece and Turkey in this order, with visits between 2 and 5 million. Compared to the first two countries these numbers are significantly lower.
