The first diagram presents the number of visits to and from the UK between 1979 and 1999. The second chart illustrates the countries that were the most popular destination among UK residents in 1999.
Overall, based on the line graph, it is clear, that in the span of the 20 examined years, in each year there were more UK citizens, that visited abroad, than the number of tourists visiting. Also, if we take a glance at the bar graph, it shows that UK residents mostly favor European trips.Regarding the differences between the number of visits to and from the UK, in 1979 the two amounts were closest to each other, around 10 million. However, throughout the years the gap increased annually, so in 1999 there were about half as much visitors than abroad holidays (approximately 26 million and around 53 million, respectively). Nevertheless, both variables show constant rise.
So let’s have a look on the most visited places by the UK locals in 1999. The leading destination was France, with an amount of 11 million English visitors out of the 53 million in total that year. The second on the list was Spain, with about 9 million, and they were followed by the USA, Greece and Turkey, all of which had UK tourists between 2.5 and 4 million.
