These two charts illustrate the changes in ownership of three electrical items (washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner) and the amount of time spent doing housework such as washing clothes, preparing meals in one country from 1920 to 2019.
Overall, every electrical item has a significant percentage of growth over the decade since 1920, where it shows a significant decrease in the number of hours spent in housework over the century.
In terms of refrigerators, the proportion of households shows dramatic growth that was around 2% in 1920 and over the century it reached 100%, lately in 1980s. Vacuum cleaners, which started at the proportion of 30% in 1920s, eventually increased to almost 100% by 2000. Whereas washing machines which had the highest proportion (40%) in 1920s has a small increase of the proportions where it reached approximately 75% by 2019.On the other hand, the amount of time (hours) spent on housework was 50 hours per week during 1920s and it has eventually decreased to 10 hours per week by 2019 where it shows the increment of using the technology over the century.
