The line graphs illustrate the number of mobile and fixed telephone subscriptions per 100 people in four countries (Eritrea, India, the UK and Uruguay) between 2005 and 2015.
Overall, mobile phone usage rose significantly in all four countries, whereas fixed telephone subscriptions generally declined or remained relatively low over the period.
Regarding mobile phones, the UK and Uruguay recorded the highest figures throughout the period. The UK showed a steady increase from around 100 subscriptions per 100 people in 2005 to approximately 125 in 2015. Uruguay experienced a more dramatic rise, climbing sharply from about 40 to nearly 150, overtaking the UK by the end of the period. India also saw rapid growth, increasing from roughly 10 to around 80 subscriptions per 100 people. In contrast, Eritrea remained the lowest, with only a slight upward trend.
As for fixed telephones, the UK had the highest level overall, although the figure gradually declined from about 60 to just over 50. Uruguay showed a moderate decrease followed by a slight recovery. Meanwhile, both India and Eritrea maintained very low and relatively stable levels throughout the period.
