The line graph compares the number of university-level students in four UK cities : London, Edinburgh, Manchester and Liverpool over a 14-year period from 2005-2019
Overall, it can be clearly observed that the total number of university students in four cities experienced an upward trend. London had the highest students among four cities, whereas Liverpool surpassed Manchester, becoming the second largest enrolled students in the final 2 years.
Beginning in 2005, the number of students in London was the highest among four cities at around 49,000 enrolled students, followed by Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh at 27,000, 15,000, 13,000, respectively. However, the figure in Edinburgh significantly fell to below 7,000 between 2008 and 2009, while the others underwent a moderate increase.
From 2010 onwards, the figures for every city steadily rose and that of London reached a peak at approximately 65,000 in the given time frame. Notably, the number of university students in Liverpool considerably surged from around 22,000 to 60,000 between 2015 and 2019, although student numbers in Manchester and Edinburgh grew more gradually, reaching approximately 44,000 and 21,000 respectively at the end of the given period.
