The two maps illustrate the changes that have taken place in an Australian zoo between 1960 and today.
Overall, the zoo has undergone significant modernization and become a recreational area, with the introduction of a cable car, a ferry, an expanded gift shop and entrances.
In 1960, in the northern area of the zoo African animals, birds, seal show and harbor were located. Australian animals were situated in the west of the zoo, while chimpanzees were placed in the south of the birds. The gift shop was positioned in the southern part of the zoo and a large picnic area was located in the east of the zoo.
At present, two entrances have been constructed in the north and south of the zoo. One of the striking changes is that a ferry has been introduced in the harbor. The chimpanzees have been removed entirely, whereas the African animals were situtated in the north of the gift shop. Moreover, a new wild animal section has been established in the northwest. The seal shows remains unchanged, but has been positioned adjacent to a newly constructed cable car system, which connects the entrance to the picnic area. In addition, the gift shop has been enlarged and the birds have been removed.
