The diagram depicts how an Australian zoo has changed between 1960 and now. Overall, the zoo has undergone a number of changes, the most important of which are the rearrangement of different animal areas and the construction of a cable car system catering for visitors’ needs.
In the west of the map, no changes were made to the area for Australian animals, and the African animal area was converted into that for wild animals. The central part of the zoo experienced significant changes, with the seal show being moved northwards and the redevelopment of the area for African animals, replacing that of chimpanzees, while the bird area was removed. The gift shop in the north was redeveloped into a two-storey building, which was accompanied by the construction of the two newly-built entrances, with the former in the north and the latter in the south.
In the east of the map, the picnic area surrounded by green space remained unaltered, while a cable car system was erected next to this area connecting the northern and southern areas of the entire zoo. There used to be a harbour in the northwest section in 1960, which was moved westwards within the northwest area of the zoo, with the addition of a ferry to serve as a means of transport for visitors accessing the zoo.
