The two maps show the transformation of a library since 1975. Overall, the library has become more modernized and visitor-friendly with the introduction of digital resources and self-service facilities. It is also clear that the majority of changes took place across the map, while the bottom side remained intact.
Focusing on the 1975 plan, access was from the top, with the new book to the right and magazines to the left. There was also a study area, featuring bookshelves, to the right of which were the librarian’s books. While the bookshelf was located in the bottom-left corner of the building, the children’s books were situated on the opposite side, with the toilet positioned in between them.
Since then, the library has experienced significant changes. While a new door for disabled people and a self check-in area replaced the new books section, the addition of a computer area – leading to the removal of the magazines – further modernized the library. New books and sofas are in the middle, which was previously occupied by the bookshelves and study area, and a coffee machine was installed in front of them. Meanwhile, the librarian’s books remained intact, near which are the study area and tables. Apart from the addition of a new bookshelf, the bottom section of the library remained largely unchanged.
