The maps describe alterations that took place in Frenton between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, Frenton witnessed major changes regarding facilities and housing, the most noteworthy of which can be observed in the appearance of flats in 2012. In addition, more blocks of flats appeared in 2012.
Looking first at the high street on the left, the school, initially located in the north-west corner, remained intact. By contrast, bank, located in the west, was replaced and expanded to make room for restaurant. Likewise, trees, located in the south-west corner, were removed to pave the way for technopark to be constructed. In the centre, the playing fields with trees were replaced by blocks of flats, while the hospital was extended.
As for the high street on the right, flats were built in 2012. Meanwhile, the hotel, located in the east, was supplanted by blocks of flats. Likewise, cafe and park situated in the centre, were turned into hotel and golf course. Finally, theatre in the south and shops in the south-east were demolished to pave way for cinema and supermarket, respectively.
