The maps demonstrate alterations in Nelson from 2000 to today. Overall, it is obvious that several buildings has been added and some structures has been either renewed or removed up until today.
If we look at the developments north of the city centre, it can be seen that a new hall of residence has been constructed on the north-west, and the small forest on the north-east has been replaced with a new shopping centre. Additionally, the train station which used to be on the west side was knocked down, and by today a brand new train station has been built just above the city center. Furthermore, a tramline was added in which direction from the university to the city centre.
In the centre itself, the old market on the west was transformed into a new shop, and an additional covered market was introduced on the east side of the city centre. A bike rental scheme was also developed in the heart of city centre. Also, the main road was pedestrianized.
Looking at the south of the city centre, it is observable that a new restaurant has started to offer food to the citizens of Nelson in the west of the port while new bars and clubs can be seen on the east of the port.
