The two maps illustrate the development of Nelson City from 2000 to the present day. It is evident that the city has undergone significant improvements and expansions, particularly with the addition of more buildings for amenities and facilities that have been constructed to improve residents’ quality of life.
One of the most notable changes is that a restaurant, bars, and clubs have been constructed in front of the port, enhancing the area’s attractiveness and vibrancy. While the roadway has been transformed into a pedestrian-only zone, the city center has remained unchanged. Additionally, a bike rental scheme has been introduced to reduce congestion and promote environmental sustainability. The old market, located on the left-hand side of the city center, has been renovated into a new shop, and a new covered market has also been constructed on the right side.
Another remarkable modification is in the Northern part of the map, where the station has been upgraded to a modern train station and relocated to the forefront of the city center. Additionally, a new tramline has been constructed, providing direct connectivity to the city center. The community greens have been cut down to make way for a newly constructed shopping center, while a new hall of residence has been erected on the left side of the university to accommodate the increasing demand for student housing.
