Overall, it is clear that there has been a dramatic change in the structure of Nelson town, particularly in the development of commercial and dining facilities. It is also worth mentioning that only the university has remained more or less unchanged over the given period.
In 2000, Nelson had a relatively simple layout. Starting from the north, there was a university situated near a small group of trees. Moving west, a train station occupied this part of the city, connected by a road running from north to south. In the central part, the city center took up a large square area surrounded by several local buildings. To the southwest of the city center, there was an old market, while in the southern part of the map, a port could be found adjacent to the main road. The entire southern boundary was bordered by this road, providing access to other parts of the town.
By now, the city has transformed substantially, becoming a more commercial and visitor-friendlier area. The train station was replaced by a new, larger one, and a tramline was constructed linking it directly to the university. To the northwest of the university, a hall of residence has been built, while a new shopping center has emerged in the northeastern corner of the map. The old market was demolished and replaced with a new covered market, and a new shop appeared to the west of it. The main road running along the port was converted into a pedestrian-only zone, alongside which restaurants, bars and clubs were introduced, making the southern part of Nelson more recreational and attractive for visitors.
