The given maps illustrates the changes in a certain part of Shalton village after 100 years, from 1910 to 2010. Overall, it can be seen that this specific area had had considerable alterations but still kept its original traffic routes.
In 1910, the center triangle of the region had a large house surrounded by many trees. On the side of High Street, there were a house in the middle of a grocery store and a bakery, on the other side, there were two houses opposite of the grocer and baker. On the outer side next to School Road, there were a school, a butchery, and a house lined up in a straight line along with the road itself. At the corner of the T-junction of London Road and School Road were a post office. The area besides London Road was vacant at the time.
In 2010, many changes were noticable, most of the premises in the center triangle were removed for housings, with the addition of a small path leading to it. The grocery store was replaced with a café. There were two more houses built on the other side of High Street, in the empty spaces available back then. The most profound alterations were on School Road, with the exception of the school, still staying in the same spot as before, the butchery was demolished to make space for a parking lot, along with a supermarket behind it, the house next to the butcher was replaced with a bank. On London Road, the post office is still available where it was 100 years ago, however, the vacant spaces are now filled with 4 houses.
