The maps illustrate transformations occurred at the same part of the Shalton village between 1990 and 2010. Overall, over the period of 100 years, the area underwent major changes. The main ones include modern and user-friendly facilities as well as the construction of different buildings at the expense of green spaces.
In 1910, there was only large house, baker, grocer store and an apartment was located with untouched green space in the center of Shalton village which is surrounded by 3 roads. One of the streets is School road and it seperates school, butcher and a house from the site. There was a post office on the top of the map, near the London road. Only three households were situated in the bottom of the map beside High street, which connects two School and London roads.
By 2010, there had been some big transformations in the area. In terms of changes in the central part of the village, large house and woods were replaced with 5 households, while grocer store substituted with cafe. In this area more roads were built to improve links between houses and other services. Bakery was demolished to make some place for houses. Another change in the west part of the area was construction of bank instead of residental building near to the School road and transformation of butcher into large parking area for the supermarket. Furthermore, school remain unchanged its original position. In addition, seven apartments were built for residents beyond London, while post office didn’t change its previous location. Finally, in the southernmost part of the area more houses were built connected to the alley.
