The maps set out the significant difference between a part of Shalton village in 1910, and the same part of it in 2010 by revealing the reconstruction and additions throughout the century.
Overall, Shalton village had witnessed considerable adjustments, particularly the increase in the size of population density and urban amenity spaces. Not only did they transform the village but also reconstructed and added facilities to the surrounding area.
Looking at the interior in 1910, apparently, there were barely any amenities in the village. Shalton village comprised a large house in the center, surrounded by green spaces with a grocer and a baker were placed on the opposite side of the other two houses on High Street to the south. In contrast, the outskirts of the village did not seem to be better than inside the village either. To the west, a school and a butcher were placed next to each other, facing the School road. The post office was positioned at the intersection of London Road and School Road to the South.
In 2010, the village underwent a transformation with a thicker inhabitant density and larger population. To support the rising resident, the large house and trees were replaced by houses, mostly located in the east of the village on the side and next to London Road and High Street, providing more residential area with an entry-road, opened from London Road to enter the village.Coming along with a bigger number of citizens was the better demand for community utilities which was why the grocer, baker and butcher were torn down and a massive supermarket was put up to the northwest, next to School road as a replacement to support a large number of consumers. A parking zone and a bank were also set up in front of the supermarket and next to the school which was untouched. And to the south, the post office remained intact.
The maps had revealed that Shalton village has overcome a significant redevelopment in inhabitant amenities and an urbanization which have supported a greater number of residents, better demand, and enhanced their living quality.
