The maps provide information about a small town known as Islip. While the first diagram illustrates its current state, the second map provides information about the future developmental plan.
Overall, it is evident that Islip town will undergo some major development in future. Although the school, park and a lane of shops retain their original locations, the main road and the shop towards the north will be replaced with other facilities. Additionally, new areas will be constructed.
To begin with, the current map has fewer facilities. There are two housing areas; one at the central area and the other at the south region. To the south-east, a park is located while a school is situated at the south-west. Meanwhile, there are seven shops on each side of the main road, making it a total of fourteen shops in the current Islip town.
Conversely, according to the plan, the school, the shop within the central area and the park will remain at their previous locations. However, a new bus station and a shopping centre will be constructed at the north-west and a car park at the east. Although the old housings will be relocated to the west and south, two new housing will be built at the north-east and beside the park respectively. The main road will be reconstructed for pedestrians’ use only and a dual carriageway will be constructed at the far west corner of the map.
