The pictures demonstrate a small town of Islip before and after the construction of several facilities during a 5-year perioud starting from 2005. As can be seen from the pictures, the town was completely transformed in a number of different ways, with the replacement of the countryside by new developments and improvements in the transport system.
The map from 2005 shows that a main road ran through Islip centre from east to west. On both sides of this route stood two line of shops. To the north of the main road was a large area of countryside, while in the southern part, two separate housing zones were located. Additionally, a school was situated in the southwest, adjacent to one of the housing areas. In the southeast corner, there was a large park, which was aslo connected to the main road by minor streets.
Regarding the remaining picture, the most notable change can be seen in the construction of a dual carriageway surrounding the centre of Islip, while the main road was converted into a pedestrian zone. The line of shops to the north of the former main road was knocked down and replaced by a bus station, a shopping centre and a car park, while the line of shops in the south remained unchanged. A new residential zones was also built, and residents could access it through a minor path that connected directly to the dual carriageway. Finally, the original housing at the southern part was expanded. Although the school was preserved, the park was reduced in size to make space for additional housing section.
