The diagrams illustrate Islip’s centre as a small town in the present and the changes will be made to it in the near future.
Overall, the centre of Islip will experience significant changes, with the development of the ring-shaped road and the disappearance of the shops and the countryside.
Looking at the first map, we can see the main road runs through the town centre from the East to the West, while in the second map, this road will be replaced by the pedestrian zone. In the future, a bus station, a shopping centre, a car park and new housing will be built at the expense of the north-sided shops by the old main road. Also, the small road of Islip will be converted into a big dual carriageway around the town centre, with the loss of the countryside.
Currently, there is a large area for housing and a park in the middle of the town. But in the development plan, the old housing will be moved to the southwest corner of the town centre. Along with that is the reduction in size of the park, in order to make place for the new housing. Finally, only the south–sided shops by the main road, the school and the old housing on the outer east will remain after the construction.
