The maps demonstrate the contrast between the present situation of the Islip town centre and its further development. Overall, the dramatic development of the town will be the reconstruction of the dual carriageway encircling the town centre by the shops and modernised housing areas.
Currently, the main road runs from west to the east with shops on both sides. The countryside lies on the north and the southern area is filled with housing, a school and the park is in the southeast area.
In the future plan, it is clearly seen that the road will be transformed into a dual carriageway around the town centre. Then, the main road on the Northside will be renovated into a pedestrian road leading to the a bus station, a shopping centre, a car park ,and a new housing area which will replace the shops on the north. Although the shops along the southside will remain unchanged, the park on the southeast will be reduced in size to build additional buildings.
To sum up, the upcoming modifications to the town centre will significantly improve the town compared to the previous layout.
