The three maps show how Meadowside village and the nearby town of Fonton developed and changed over the 1962, 1985, and 2024 years.
Overall, both places expanded significantly, eventually growing into one connected urban area. Meadowside village gradually transformed into a suburb, with a noticeable increase in residential, commercial, and recreational facilities throughout the period.
In 1962, Meadowside was a small, isolated village with only a single minor road leading in and out. Fonton was also separated from Meadowside, and although it had a railway line, there was no transport link connecting the two settlements.By 1985, the situation had changed. A major road was built to link Meadowside and Fonton, and several new facilities appeared in Meadowside, including a housing estate, a leisure center, and a large supermarket. These developments marked the beginning of Meadowside’s expansion.
By 2024, the two places had effectively merged into one continuous suburb. Additional buildings such as a hotel, a business park, and a new railway station were constructed. The railway line was also extended to provide direct access to the station, further improving transportation and connectivity in the area.
