The maps illustrate the transformation of Newport town between 1980 and 2010.
Overall, the town has been modernized, since some new facilities are added to the city. However, developments came at the cost of the environment, since most of the trees are cutted down to open space for new facilities.
There cannot be a lot of changes seen in the south part of the city. Trees are removed to lengthen the railway of the town. Also location of railway station have been changed to near the big road in the middle of the city.
However, the north half of the town, on the other side of the road, is much modernized. Another big road was built to make the town more transport-friendly. The school in the north-west corner of the town is now flattened and replaced by a shopping center. The hospital, located in the right of the school, is not changed, however parking nearby is minimised and moved to the right. New sports grounds and University are built in the south side of them, in the place of trees. While lake and trees in the north-east of the map did not see any change however new apartments and factory are constructed in the south of them.
