The two maps illustrate the changes that took place in the town of Newport between 1980 and 2010.
Overall, there was a considerable development in Newport over these years and it was gradually transformed from a rural town into more urbanized residential area. New infrastructures like university, factory, apartments and sports section were added.
First of all, a large number of trees were removed from the western side of the town and instead made way for sports ground and university. In the northern part, the road was extended and became wider. On this road, school which was at the top west corner of the map, was replaced by a shopping centre, whereas parking facing the hospital, was moved next to it and was downsized.
Furthermore, in the eastern area, factory was constructed and residential properties were built in response to the notable increase in population. Another notable change was the extension of railway station in a western direction, where it overtook the land previously occupied by trees. Meanwhile, the hospital and lake located to the north-east of the town, remained unchanged throughout the period.
