The maps demonstrate how a waterfront area in Darwin town changed from 2009 to 2014.
Overall, the site experienced a shift from industrial area towards the one designed for residents’ living, with the removal of industrial sites as well as the addition of housing and other facilities.
In 2009, the waterfront area was surrounded by a road connected with the sea in the eastern side. In the northern part of the area, there used to be a ring footpath that encircled an industrial area, a lake and trees. While the northwest corner of the foot path was a school and convention center, the western side consisted of three parallel residential building with another industrial complex. Between the circular footpath and the sea was two swimming pool, northeast of which was a fishing area.
In 2014, while the lake in the ring footpath remained untouched, the industrial factory was replaced by a new swimming pool. Throughout, the living area became more populated with the construction of three residential housings, accompanied with a new university. The industrial area in the southern part was demolished, leaving the areas with green spaces. Moreover, a harbour was erected with another footpath, linking the road with the seashore. Finally, there were no changes being witnessed in the remaining figures.
