The maps illustrate how development shaped the town of Lynnfield between 1936 and 2007.
Overall, the town shifted its focus towards building commercial and recreational facilities, with the addition of a travel agent, supermarket, shopping centre, museum and golf course, replacing old facilities such as sweet shops, butchers and government offices. Of particular note are the post office, bank and library, which have remained unchanged in their original positions.
Regarding the first map, Lynnfield was a less-developed town with a number of facilities. There were trees in the southwest and a river located on the right-hand side of the trees. Government offices and farmland were positioned on the northeastern side of the centre. Furthermore, there was a cycle path near the town centre.
Concerning the present map, Lynnfield is an urbanised area that has seen significant changes over time. In terms of leisure facilities, a museum and a golf course have been built to the southwest of the centre. The river was replaced by a residential area. The cycle path has been removed to make way for a road.
