The two maps illustrate the changes that took place in the town of Frenton between 1990 and 2012. Overall, the town underwent a dramatic transformation over this period, becoming noticeably more urbanized with new residential and commercial developments, while certain key features remained in place.
In 1990, Frenton was a relatively simpler town. A school was situated in the northwest corner, with a bank and library directly below it. Playing fields with trees occupied much of the northern central area, positioned beside a hospital. Meanwhile, houses stretched along the top-right side, and a café and park were located in the central area adjacent to the theatre. At the bottom right, shops formed the main commercial zone.
By 2012, the town had been modernized significantly. The playing fields were removed to make way for blocks of flats, and the café and park were converted into a hotel and golf course. Likewise, the theatre in the central area was knocked down and replaced with a cinema, whereas the shops in the southeast were demolished to construct a supermarket. In the southwest, the bank and library from 1990 disappeared, giving rise to a restaurant and technopark. Despite these sweeping changes, the school and hospital remained unchanged, continuing to serve the local population.
