The maps depict the development of an Australian Zoo from 1960 to now.
Overall, the zoo experienced significant modernization throughout decades characterized by the introduction of new transportation infrastructure. At the present, the two new entrances along with a ferry and cable car provide accessibility and convenience for visitors.
In 1960, people could enter the zoo from the harbour from the north-east side of the map. The eastern sector featured a picnic area and a Seal Show, while right beside these, centrally, the zoo provided a place to exhibit birds and chimpanzees. On the opposite side, there were two groups of animals coming from two continents which are African and Australian, respectively from the north to the south.
At the present, the harbour has been moved to the north-west side of the map, due to the implication of new entrances. There is also a ferry and a cable car for customers to easily visit the site. Although the picnic area and the Australian animals sector stayed unchanged during the redevelopment, the African one was replaced by a wild animals sector and moved to the other side of the zoo. Significantly, the gift shops is extended and redecorated into a more attractive appearance.
