The two maps illustrates the changes town Poulton underwent over a thirty-five-year period, from 1900 to 1935.
Overall, town Poulton underwent signifcant transformations shifting from an area dominated by wasteland and residential areas into one characterized by a large street park, flats, mansions, and an addition of a new lane.
In 1900, Poulton consists mostly of terraced houses. They were located beside the Trent Street, and Bayley street. On the nothern part, a factory was built beside a wasteland. While, in front of the wasteland, a laundry and a shop can be seen. A railway was established on the southern part of the map, while the worker’s cottages were built infront of it adjacent to the wasteland. A cafe was also established just in front of the railway workers’ cottages.
By 1935, notable development can be seen. The terraced houses located beside the Trent Street on the western part transformed into Flats. The factory and wasteland were removed, and it was replaced by a large Bayley Mansion. The laundry and cafe was relocated just beside the mansion. On the southern part, the residential area, railway, wasteland, and railway worker’s cottage were all demolished, it was turned in to a large park called Bayley Street Park. A children play area was also built inside the park. Further, a new lane was also established on the eastern part. Three shops were built adjacent to the right side of the new lane.
