The pictures illustrate how Shipmouth changed between 1995 and 2010.
Overall, the town underwent a dramatic transformation over the 15-year period, becoming far more urbanised and modernised. Several traditional features, such as the factory, church and houses, were removed and replaced by commercial, residential and transport facilities.
In 1995, Shipmouth was a relatively small and simple town. On the western side, there was a factory located near the river, while a church stood in the north-east. To the east of the town were several houses surrounded by trees. In the centre of the town was a road running through the city centre, and a railway station was situated directly below it.
By 2010, significant developments had taken place throughout the area. The factory and nearby trees on the western side had been demolished and replaced by apartment blocks and a shopping centre. Meanwhile, the church and houses in the east disappeared to make way for skyscrapers and an airport. In the south-western part of the town, a football stadium was constructed near the station, while a pub was added to the north-east of the city centre.
Another notable change was that the main road through the city centre was converted into a pedestrian-only street, indicating a shift towards a more modern urban environment.
