The line graphs illustrate how the monthly price of exported rice from Thailand and Vietnam, measured in million dollars per ton, has changed between 2012 and 2015.
Overall, rice exports in Thailand over all years, except 2013, generally increased. This pattern contrasted with Vietnam, where all years, apart from the last one, saw declines.
Turning to Thailand, it is clear that export rates followed a general rise, albeit they decreased between March and July and recovered by the end of each year. In early 2012, its figure stood at 500 and dipped significantly in May. From this month onwards, it surged to reach a peak of 550. Export values for both 2014 and 2015 gradually increased and both were just below 500 by December. However, this trend was not true for prices in 2013, which consistently fell from its peak of 550 to the lowest point of 400.
Regarding Vietnam, it can be observed that throughout the first three years figures for exports gradually decreased, yet this pattern was reversed for the last year of the entire period. Export costs for 2012 and 2013, which initially amounted to 400 and 375, dropped to 325 and 350 respectively by each December. By contrast, 2014 remained relatively stable at around 325. Finally, the export prices followed an upward trend only in 2015, climbing from the lowest point of 300 to 400 by the end of the year.
