The line graph illustrates the number of delivered cargo in the UK from 1974 to 2002 by four categories of transport.
Overall, much transport increased over the period, especially road and water. Rail and water transport had the same number of tonnes at a certain point in time. Fortunately, none of them decreased overall by 2002.
The most commonly used mode of transport is road throughout the time. In 1974, there were about 65 million tonnes. By 2002, the quantity rose to approximately 100 million tonnes. Regarding pipeline, the transport was barely used in 1974. However, in 2002 it significantly grew to 20 million tonnes.
Concerning rail transport, it is the only mode of transport that had a slight increase of around 1-2 tonnes in comparison with others. Rail fluctuated throughout the period. In addition, rail and water had about 40 million tonnes between 1974 and 1978. Nevertheless, by 2002, water increased to over 60 million tonnes. Water transport rose more significantly than rail transport.
