The line graph illustrates three various types of crime committed in England and Wales during 35 years.
Overall, the cases of crime notably had risen over time.
Car theft was by far the most common type. In 1970 figures for it stood at 0.4 million. This was followed by a double in 1980 and a gradual rise to one million by the year 1990. From there on, in 1995 the figure picked at 1.6 million. However, cases of car theft then considerably decreased and reached 1990’s figure in 2005.
House burglary and street robbery were two less committed types of crime. Figures for house burglary started at 0.2 million and demonstrated a triple in the first ten years, after which it plateaued for a period of five years and then gradually decreased to just over 0.4 million cases in 2005. Figures for street robbery, although they did not change in the first 20 years, showed a negligible increase of 0.2 million cases by the end of the period.
