The bar chart compares the proportion of Internet use for shopping online based on six age groups in Australia in a period of two years (from 2007 to 2009).
Overall, the number of Australians in 26-45 years old made up for the highest proportion in using the Internet for shopping online. By contrast, the lowest proportion of Australian users was shown in the category of people who are older than 65 years old.
In 2007, the proportion of Australian people who were 26-45 years old was the highest, with about 32% of 26-35 years old people using the Internet for shopping online while the data for the age group 36-45 years old was about 26%. The figure for young people (15-25 years old) was only 20%, lower than that of adults (26-45 years old). Besides, the percentage of old people who shopped online in Australia decreased throughout each age group, with about 23% for 46-55 years old, then fell down by 8% to only about 5% for 65+ years old people.
In 2009, the 36-35 age group had the most significant increase, with peaking at about 37% after two years. The older the age groups, the more growth was recorded, with participation rates in shopping online among individuals aged 46-55 and 56-65 reaching 27% and 18% respectively. Noticeably, the figure for the oldest groups more than doubled to around 12% in 2009.
