The bar chart shows the number of young people who attended university in six different countries located in Europe (Italy, Spain, UK, Poland, Norway, Finland) in 2000 and 2007. Units are presented in percentage.
Overall, the trends varied among the six countries. Upward trends can be seen in Italy, UK, and Poland. On the other hand, both Spain and Norway experienced downward trends, while Finland remained stable.
Poland recorded the highest growth, as well as the highest percentage of teenagers attending university compared to the other countries by 2007, rising from 64% to 78%, resulting in a 14% increase. Likewise, Italy and UK experienced a rise in their figures, from 38% and 46% to 52% and 54%, respectively.
In contrast, Spain experienced the largest decline between other countries, falling from 46% to 41%, resulting in a 5% drop. Norway also saw a slight decrease by 1%, whereas Finland maintained steady at 70% by 2007.
