The bar chart compares the percentage of young people studying at university in five different countries in Europe. Overall, while the percentage of young people at university increased in three of these countries, other countries either saw a drop or did not change in the proportion of the young students.
The proportion of young individuals studying at university increased in Italy, the UK, and Poland. While Poland had the highest increase, rising from 64% in 2000 to 78% in 2007, the UK experienced the smallest growth, increasing from 46% in the first year to 54% in the second year. Notably, Italy had the lowest attendance rate in 2000 (38%), while Poland had the highest level in the second year, at 78% in 2007.
The percentage of young individuals attending university in Spain and Norway declined. The percentage of young Spanish who went to university decreased from 46% to 41% in 2007. It is noteworthy that Finland was the only country that did not experience any change, remaining stable at 70%
