The images illustrate the development of Laguna Beach from 1950 to 1990. Initially, there were beach huts in 1950 which were later transformed into villas, and eventually, a hotel.
In 1950, the sand dunes in the top left corner remained unchanged for the next two decades. However, over the following twenty years, landscaped gardens were built to replace the sand dunes. The beach huts from 1950 underwent significant renovation to become villas by 1970. Subsequently, within the next two decades, the villas were replaced by a hotel.
On the right-hand side of the image, a pathway to access the beach in the 1950s was replaced by a road. A new pool was also constructed adjacent to the hotel in 1990. In the 1970s, the woodland was cleared to make way for a caravan park, which was later replaced by a car park in the following years. Finally, a surf school was established on the beach in 1990.
Overall, there were remarkable changes at Laguna Beach, including the addition of new amenities and improved landscaped gardens.
