The pie chart illustrates the main factors that make farming land becoming less productive, while the bar chart compares how these factors affected North America, Europe, and Oceania during the 1990s.
Overall, the biggest cause of land degradation worldwide was over-grazing followed by deforestation, over-cultivation, and the last was salinization. In the three regions, Europe had the most serious land damage, while North America had the least.
Firstly, the pie chart shows that the world’s land loss was caused by over-grazing about 34%. Next, deforestation made up 30%, and over-cultivation took around 28%. Only 8% of the land became loss because of salinization, which the smallest part.
Secondly, the bar chart shows Europe had the highest amount of damaged land with total around 20% because of deforestation 8,4%, over-cultivation 7,7% and over-grazing 5,6%. Oceania came next with around 13%, mainly from over-grazing 11.3%. North America had the lowest number, about 5%, and most of its damage from over-cultivation 3.3%.
