The pie charts give information about energy capacity in gigawatts in 2015 with the further prediction for the year 2040.
Overall, at the beginning of the period, fossil fuels were the most significant part of the energy while solar was the smallest segment. In comparison, at the end of the period, fossil fuels stayed constant in the biggest portion of the pie and the lowest contribution was made up by nuclear energy.
Solar energy was 2% of the total energy capacity in 2015 and it is an expected to 9 fold increase in 2040. Wind energy accounted for 5% in 2015 and it is predicted to increase by 7%.
Fossil fuels made up 64% in 2015 and it is expected to fall to 44% in 2040. Other renewables and nuclear energy were at 23% and 6% in 2015, respectively and both are predicted to slightly decrease by 2% and 1% in the year 2040.
