The two pie charts compare the percentage distribution of electric energy production , which is a major source of energy in USA, between 1970 and 1980.
Overall, coal accounted for the largest proportion in both charts, whereas nuclear represented the smallest share. Although there were some changes over time, the general distribution pattern remained broadly similar.
In 1970, coal made up the largest segment, accounting for 47% of the total. This was followed by natural gas, which represented 24%. Meanwhile, hydro and oil contributed moderate proportions, at around 16% and 12% respectively. The smallest proportion was recorded for nuclear, at just 1%.
By 1980, there were noticeable changes. Although coal remained the dominant category, its share rose to 51%. In contrast, natural gas decreased to 15%, while hydro and oil experienced a more slight change drop to 12% and 11%. Nevertheless, nuclear continued to represent the smallest proportion at 11%.
