The two pie charts show the percentage of world population in 1900 and 2000 in different regions.
In 1900, Asia had the biggest part of world population, with 60%. Europe (including Russia) was second, with 25%. Other regions had much smaller shares: Africa had 4%, North America had 5%, and Latin America and the Caribbean only 3%. The Middle East and North Africa were not shown in 1900.
In 2000, Asia was still the largest, but the percentage dropped to 54%. Europe also went down a lot, from 25% to 14%. In contrast, Africa increased from 4% to 10%, and Latin America and Caribbean rose to 8%. The Middle East and North Africa appeared in 2000 data with 6%, and North America had 5%, just a little less than before.
In general, Asia had the most population in both years, but its share became smaller. Europe’s population share dropped clearly. On the other hand, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East became more important in world population in 2000.
